Our album is coming along. So far, we’ve recorded all the drum tracks, done the bass tracks, and all the electric guitar tracks. Now we’re on to the keyboard/piano tracks. Our good friend, Brandi MacSween, was our drummer for these songs, and we did the drum tracks at Dominelli Studio’s with Sandro Dominelli.
I love studio days. Everything about them. I like getting up early and getting a coffee from Tims on the way there. The coffee is an essential part of studio days, obviously. I love the way that studios smell, with all the gear and the wood panels and whatever else makes it have that studio smell. I specially love seeing a studio for the first time. I like seeing how everyone sets up their studios and the little things people do to personalize their space. Every studio has it’s own essence, or vibe.
This time around, we won’t be in a studio much, as we’re doing most of our EP at home in our home studio that Isaac has built over the years. We make use of every room in our house too. All that to say, it was nice to have those couple days watching Brandi kill it on the drums, listening to our demos come a little more to life with the sound of real drums. Watching her play with that feel and precision that she imbues at the same time was such a treat. It’s always nice when the musician comes in and listens back to their part, hearing the faintest “mistakes” themselves, and wants to fix it immediately without you ever saying a word, or even having picked up on it sometimes. It’s hard sometimes to give that full trust to someone on something that feels like your heart. You hand it over to them to hold and care for, and say “can you shape this a little, make this pretty?”, and wait for them to hand it back. I always feel confident with Brandi when I hand her things to shape. The tracks turned out great.

Shortly after that, we moved on to recording Isaacs' bass and guitar tracks here at home, which he did flawlessly, but I'lll get into more detail with all of that in another post, as I'll be adding additional content with that.
